Feva IOW 2025 Winter Training

Following on from a small group of Feva sailors which I coached last winter, it was great to be invited back for the second year of the small squad, who have all had a fantastic first year in the Feva! We were training out of Royal Victoria Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight and having asked sailors what they wanted to cover prior to the weekend, our two topics were:
1. Starting tactics and manoeuvres against other boats
2. Downwind gybing

The first day brought very light winds with only a 3 hour window to maximise our time practicing trigger pulls and tactics for boat on boat. The key takeaway from day 1 was the timing of crew and helm within the trigger pull and the creating a bigger picture of the start line.


Day 2 was definitely top end with only a 90 minute window first thing so we managed to hit the water at 8:30 to nail high and fast gybing. The point most teams took away was the commitment within high and fast gybes to try and keep the boat planning throughout the gybe. It was great to test out different positions in the boat for team as well downwind and I believe this may have sorted some issues with 'comfiness' downwind.
